Meet Kelia

I’m Kelia! I am an experienced educator, currently working in the Exceptional Children program at Central Park School for Children. I am going into my tenth year of teaching, with experience in public, private, and charter schools. Primarily, I've worked with grades three through eight. I attended Elon University for my undergraduate education where I received a degree in history. I then attended Clark Atlanta University and earned a Master’s Degree in African American Studies, which is where I fell in love with teaching. I also attended East Carolina University’s Teacher Residency Program.

I have a passion for, and extensive experience working with, neurodiverse students. I truly enjoy working with kids one-on-one to help them unlock their full potential and help to build up their confidence. I also love partnering with parents and acting as a resource as they navigate their child’s education. I am extremely passionate about diversity and equity, and center it in my teaching. People sometimes forget that neurodiversity is diversity, and educational spaces need to work hard to be just as inclusive in that area.

I live in Hillsborough with my husband and two children. Through both my children's early education journey, I've witnessed first hand the benefits of explicit phonics teaching as they embarked on their respective reading journeys. I also understand the complexities that come along with securing tutoring and ensuring your child has all the supports in place to be successful. I look forward to being a source of support for your child!
