How We Teach

Every individual learns differently. Our tutoring is built around your learner, so instruction is targeted, explicit, hands-on and adjusted to their needs.

Experienced Educators

All of our tutors are experienced teachers with expertise in areas such as special education, academic intervention, literacy coaching, and upper-level mathematics.

Because our tutors teach or have taught in local schools, they have firsthand knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and the social-emotional needs of our learners.

Specialized Intervention

We find and close the underlying skill gaps that make schoolwork hard, so progress carries into the classroom.

Assessment-Driven Instruction

We begin by collecting baseline data to learn what each student knows and what they’re ready to learn next. This pinpoints gaps in foundational skills and shapes their instructional plan. As students progress, we reassess those skills to document their growth.

Targeted, Multisensory Instruction

Our sessions are full of hands-on activities that engage multiple senses: tactile, visual, and auditory. This keeps learning engaging and strengthens memory and skill development. For reading and spelling, we use structured literacy methods that teach the sounds and patterns of English explicitly and systematically.

Practice Until Mastery

Students practice foundational skills until automaticity, so that they can move forward to more complex skills with confidence. A mastery-based approach allows them to progress more efficiently with high levels of accuracy in their work.

We Come To You

Sessions take place at home, at school, or at your local library, wherever your child is most comfortable and focused.

Part of Your Learner’s Team

With your permission, we coordinate the content of our sessions with teachers and other specialists so everyone is working toward the same goals.
