Meet Cal

Hi there! My name is Cal Ruback, and I am a special educator based out of Durham, North Carolina. I am currently completing my third year in an inclusive special education school, and hold a Bachelor's Degree from Winona State University in Special Education. My classroom holds students in grades three through eight, with varying diagnoses and severities. Prior to working in the schools, I worked as a Registered Behavioral Technician, and used Applied Behavioral Analysis principles to modify behavior and increase functional communication skills. I use both my time in the ABA field and my teaching experience to build my teaching philosophies.

My teaching methods are rooted in sensory integration, empathy, and trauma-informed practices. I believe every child is capable of learning. I meet students where they are at, and work from there. A student cannot experience true academic success unless they feel safe and supported. It is my goal to help students feel safe enough to push themselves academically and try new things. I am passionate about equipping students with academic and executive skills that will promote lifelong success. I look forward to working with you and your student!
