Meet Luann

My name is Luann Vanderpool. I am a retired elementary school teacher from the Wake County Public School System. My experience includes 13 years as a classroom teacher and 21 years as a reading interventionist. As a reading interventionist, I primarily worked with students that had significant needs in decoding, fluency, and comprehension.

I received my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Dowling College in NY and my master’s degree also in Elementary Education from the University of North Texas. In addition, I am reading certified K-12 from Fayetteville State University. In 2010 I became a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy: Reading Language Arts - Early and Middle Childhood and in 2018 became ESL certified K-12.

My passion is supporting struggling readers by building on their strengths, targeting their literacy gaps, and then watching their confidence grow. Having the ability to read is the foundation upon which all future academic success is built. I am honored to be a part of a student’s journey towards that success.
