Meet Brittanie
My name is Brittanie Tyson and I am currently a preschool teacher at an independent school in Durham. I have been teaching since 2011, in both public and private schools, and I could never imagine doing anything else! I currently hold a B.S. in Early Childhood Education, and M.Ed. in Instructional Accommodations, and a Post-Master’s Certificate in School Administration. I have experience in the classroom teaching grades preschool through 3rd and have served as a 95Rap reading interventionist for students in grades K-4th.
My philosophy of education is very simple. I believe all students can learn if given the right tools and differentiation. A strong foundation has always been important to me. As an early childhood major, I’ve always believed phonics instruction to be paramount to a student’s success. When I had my daughter, I taught decoding skills with bedtime stores and it solidified that belief. When teaching my students (and my daughter) to read, I know that teaching the words isn’t enough; the students must have decoding skills! That is what sets apart a student’s ability to grasp more challenging content as it’s presented so they can read to learn.
When I am not tutoring or working in the classroom, you can find me at home catching up on my favorite show, starting a new hobby, or spending time with my daughter.
