Meet Lisa
Hi! My name is Lisa Fisher, and I have been a teacher for over 25 years. I have had the privilege of working with students with special needs, ages two to 21, in a variety of settings, including public schools, charter schools, and in their homes. My career has taken me to a variety of places across the United States, but I have spent most of my time teaching in Orange and Alamance counties in North Carolina, where I have lived since 1995.
My specialty is working with students with learning disabilities, and I have a particular interest in reading, writing, and social skills development. I have received training in and utilized a range of evidence-based programs, including Wilson and Fundations, Heggerty, and Science of Reading, as well as Empowering Writers and Teaching Writing.
I believe that learning is a unique journey for every individual. When students feel a personal connection to what they're learning and understand how they learn best, the process is greatly enhanced.
I hold a bachelor's degree in special education and a master's degree in early childhood education and development. While my formal education has been invaluable, I have learned the most important lessons about teaching and learning from my students and colleagues.
