Meet Emily
I am a dedicated elementary educator with over six years of experience in Pre-K through 3rd grade. I'm licensed in both general education and special education-- my current role is teaching in a special education classroom for K-2 students whose disabilities impact their behavior and social-emotional learning. I am trained and certified by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) in nonviolent crisis intervention. I am also trained in a variety of literacy curricula including CKLA/Amplify, American Reading Company, Heggerty, Fundations, Letterland, and an evidence-based professional development program called LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling). My favorite pedagogical practices are the Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Conscious Discipline, and Whole Brain Teaching. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that diverse abilities are strengths, and that every child has the potential to succeed with the right supports. As a neurodivergent person, I integrate my own executive functioning and regulation strategies to model focus, organization, and confidence to my students. I hope to empower all students to share ownership of their education and find joy in lifelong learning. I'm excited to meet you and your family!
